Christopher’s Story

Father and Daughter Battle Epilepsy Together

Here is a backstory: I have been battling epilepsy since 2002, six months into my marriage. In 2004, we had a daughter and at one year old she was diagnosed with epilepsy as well. Throughout the years we battled epilepsy together. At age 16, her seizures changed and we found ourselves battling a different kind of seizure.

Through it all we maintained that my daughter can do anything she wants to do, even now as she battles Crohn’s disease along with a developmental delay. I have been a strong volunteer educator and routinely share our personal battle with epilepsy and how we advocate for ourselves and our daughter. Currently, I’ve been seizure-free for eight years. My daughter is also a Special Olympics athlete, plays for Minnesota Wild Special Hockey, and she has her own comic book about playing sports with epilepsy.
